I am basically sick of hearing about the Irish property market or anything related to it, but it is often said that Irish people have such an obsessive love of real estate that, having driven Irish property prices up to insane levels, they are now buying up all the shitey propteries of Eastern Europe, failing to register that they might be cheap for a reason.
