First of all, what does this mean? I think it's drummers who sing and drum at the same time. So that makes it easy. The best three singing drummers are:
Then there are drummers who can (and do) sing.
- Phil Collins
- Robert Wyatt
- Mo Tucker
- Roger Taylor (of Queen)
- Denis Wilson (of the Beach Boys)
- Dave Grohl
- Bobby Gillespie
- Ringo Starr
- That guy from Paper Lace
Then there's the special subcategory of drummers who shout:
- Yamantaka Eye (Boredoms)
- Yoshimi P-We (Boredoms, OOIOO)
- Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins)
Andy Sturmer, formerly of Jellyfish, now the evil genius behind J-Pop senstations Puffy. Have you heard them? They're genuinely good.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I haven't heard Puffy but I will check them (him) out.
ReplyDeleteHow could you forget Animal of the Muppets under the "drummers who shout" category?
ReplyDeleteThanks Kugel, you are right, Animal should be in there with the shouters.
ReplyDeleteDon Henley of the Eagles. He's not the fanciest drummer, but he's solid and is one of the main reason of their success.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chad, I believe in solid drummers! But.... I have never been able to listen to the Eagles. Maybe I shall give them another try.
ReplyDeleteGive this a try its one of their most recognizable songs.

You must include Robert Townsend of the 60's band Family, currently with the Blues Band.
ReplyDeleteThe drummer in "Five Eyed Hand". Probably one of the best whistlers in the world... and an amazing melodic singer... and is an excellent drummer while doing so. Don't see many whistling drummers.
